Live Zoom Classes for the Intermediate Kangaroos and Olympiads
These short courses are aimed at students preparing for the UKMT Grey (Year 9) and Pink (Years 10+11) Kangaroos and Cayley (Year 9), Hamilton (Year 10) and Maclaurin (Year 11) Olympiad rounds.
Interested students are welcome to register for multiple sessions regardless of which competitions they have qualified for. In particular, the Grey and Pink Kangaroo are quite similar. More advanced Year 9 (or younger) students may prefer to register for the Year 10 or 11 courses. Olympiad classes will be separated into Cayley (Year 9) and Hamilton and Maclaurin (Years 10+11). Most Olympiad students could benefit from attending both classes.
- Grey Kangaroo: Thurs 27th Feb, 6th, 13th March 5:30-6:15pm
- Pink Kangaroo: Thurs 27th Feb, 6th, 13th March 6:30-7:15pm
- Cayley Olympiad: Sat 1st, 8th, 15th March 1-245pm
- Hamilton + Maclaurin Olympaid: Sat 1st, 8th, 15th March 3-445pm
Don't just take my word for it!
These students loved the classes here and I'm sure you will too!
Frequently Asked Questions
No. The courses will be aimed at students who are taking the relevant challenges, but students are welcome to attend any or all of the courses regardless of which challenges they have qualified for or are sitting, even if they are not taking any of the challenges.
Some Kangaroo students will also enjoy the regular track of the Olympiad course, and some Olympiad students may like to top up with the Kangaroo course as there is a lot of overlap in terms of the topics covered. A few students may even want to come to all three sets of classes!
No, you can only register for a complete set of classes, and switching between individual classes will not be possible.
All Olympiad problems are very challenging and will stretch the strongest students, but there is still a gradual step up from the standard of Q1 to the hardest Q5 and 6 problems.
We often have medal winners in these classes, but they are also structured to be accessible to those with less Olympiad experience. So there will be a balanced range of problems covered from questions that could appear as Q1-6.
Enthusiastic younger students are always welcome to attend. All students must be 16 years or younger, but there is no lower limit and children who are far ahead of their age group sometimes attend these classes.
The live Zoom classes are never recorded (and permission to make recordings is not given).
There is currently no self-paced version of this exact course, but many of the same ideas are covered in the Go for Gold in Maths Challenges courses. There are also free courses working through many real past paper questions. You can find all of these from the relevant pages in the menus or by logging in and visiting your dashboard.
